The University of Luxembourg invites applications for a vacancy in its Laboratory for Energy Materials. There is an opening for a Doctoral Candidate (Ph.D student) starting in Spring 2019 to research thin film semi-transparent photovoltaics as part of an international team.

• 14 months fixed-term contract, renewable up to 3 years on full-time basis
• Full-time (40 hrs/week)
• Employee and student status

The doctoral candidate (DC) will be responsible for the solution processed fabrication of thin film semiconductor layers to form individual solar cells as well as semi-transparent mini modules. The DC will also be responsible for semiconductor layer and solar cell characterization. It would be advantageous if the candidate already had experience of any of the following: solution processing, thermal annealing, structural, or opto-electronic characterization. The candidate should be prepared to travel to Portugal to carry out a strong collaboration.

  •  Thin film semiconductor fabrication
  •  Chemical, structural, opto-electronic characterization of thin films and devices
  •  Preparation of Ph.D thesis and scientific publications
  •  Assist in outreach and teaching on occasion

Profile

  • Excellent Masters in materials science, chemistry, solid state physics or similar
  • Solid background or previous experience in one of the following research fields is an advantage: inorganic or physical chemistry, solid state or condensed matter physics
  • Self-motivated, committed and curious
  • Creative and independent thinker
  •  Very good knowledge of English
  • Good oral communicator
