Postdoc Position: Ultrafast dynamics of hybrid nanosystems

Universität Hamburg invites applications for a Research Associate for the project “Ultrafast dynamics of hybrid nanosystems” in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG). The  position commences on 01 November 2018.

It is remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13 and calls for 39 hours per week.

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates can also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties:

The candidate will advance ultrafast pump-probe experiments to investigate charge and energy dynamics in individual and coupled nanosystems (The Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging, group of Prof. Holger Lange).
Specific tasks include the design and extension of visible and THz pump-probe experiments.Furthermore, the design and execution of optical-pump X-ray probe experiments with FELs is contemplated.

The candidate will work with fs laser systems and pump-probe setups in the visible and THz regime.
The candidate will be responsible to extend and advance the setups to enable new pump configurations and experiments in the IR. FEL experiments shall be co-planed and conducted. The work will be performed in close collaboration with the group of Horst Weller and  the DESY. The work shall be carried out self-reliant and shall lead to scientific independence by enabling a grant proposal or similar.

A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. I.e. PhD degree in Physics or a similar degree. Work experience as postdoc is beneficial.

The candidate's area of competence should be in optical spectroscopy and ultrafast photon science. Experience in the field of time-resolved spectroscopy with pulsed laser systems and THz TDS is desirable.

Experience with attosecond physics, pulsed coherent X-ray radiation from free electron lasers would be beneficial.

Severly disabled applicants will receive preference over equally qualified non-disabled applicants.

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and copies of degree certificate(s). The application deadline is 30 September 2018. Please send applications to: Prof. Dr. Holger Lange (
