Postdoc position: Tip-enhanced optical spectroscopy
Beschreibung: Postdoc in Tip-Enhanced Optical Spectroscopy in the Spectroscopy group at the Department of Physical Chemistry (http://www.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/pc/shg/). The research of the group focuses on the development and application of modern microscopic and spectroscopic methods that are based on the tip-enhancement (TE) of optical signals. In our approach, a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) in Ultra-High-Vacuum (UHV) is combined with a Raman spectrometer to form to a new, versatile instrument that possesses unique properties in terms of extreme sensitivity, high optical spatial resolution beyond the Abbe diffraction limit and yet provides far-reaching access to the chemical characterization of a sample. This technique provides novel information on physical and chemical properties at the level of individual molecules. We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified candidate who will conduct a research project on tip-enhanced optical spectroscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy of single molecules at single crystal metal and oxide films prepared in UHV. Our goal is to study the interaction of individual molecules with their environment. Other research direction can also be developed by the postdoctoral researcher. Candidates must have a PhD in physics, chemistry or related disciplines, good English language skills (oral and written communication) are expected. The ideal candidate has experience in the following fields: Scanning probe microscopy, optical methods such as Raman spectroscopy, UHV techniques and surface science. The position is initially limited to one year with the possibility of extension. The Max Planck Society whishes to increase the participation of women in its research activities.
