Saarland University University of Luxemburg Laue-Langevin Institute Grenoble
The Saarland University and the University of Luxemburg in collaboration with the Laue-Langevin Institute (ILL) Grenoble are investigating kinetic and fast dynamic processes in nanomaterials using the innovative stroboscopic small angle neutron scattering technique (SANS). For a research project funded by BMBF we are seeking as of now a:
PhD student.
The successful candidate will have a M.Sc. or diploma degree in physics of a Technical College or University.
Tasks:
The objective of the project ist the investigation of structural modifications on the nanometer scale in magnetising processes, magnetic field induced structure formation as well as domain movements in magnetic nanomaterials. Emphasis will be on the use of a pulsed neutron beam to measure the sample response on an applied periodic magnetic field as time-dependent SANS signal. This innovative stroboscopic method (TISANE) enables the study of processes in the time frame from the millisecond to the microsecond scale. Focus of the doctoral thesis is the development of a sample environment providing an optional superposition of an oscillating and/or static magnet field in the kHz range. This sample environment shall be developed and installed in collaboration with the ILL. Preparation and characterisation of magnetic materials will be carried out at the UdS. The stroboscopic SANS experiments and the data analysis will be a collaborative effort of the ILL and the University of Luxemburg.
Requirements:
Basic knowledge of solid state physics, good basic technical understanding, good experimental skills.
The Position:
We offer an exciting and challenging position in a dynamic team of physicists, material scientists and electrical/mechanical engineers. The attendance of international conferences is highly estimated.
Terms of employment:
The position is offered for a threee-year term (TV-L 13/2).
The Saarland University is an equal opportunities employer. In accordance with its policy of increasing the proportion of women in this type of employment, the University actively encourages applications from women.
For candidates with equal qualification, preference will be given to handicapped people.
